Temporary Protected Status (“TPS”)

Temporary Protected Status is a temporary status available to nationals of a specific country once the Secretary of Homeland Security makes the appropriate designation. TPS is generally given to countries that are confronting temporary or extraordinary conditions. TPS provides eligible applicants with the opportunity to obtain an Employment Authorization Document. In order to qualify for TPS you must be physically present in the United States at the time of designation.
